For the past few months, more months than I care to count, my journey has been that of metamorphosis. My job, my lifestyle, my diet, my exercise habits, my clothing sizes, my friends, my family – all of it CHANGED. So much change that I have yet to wrap my head around the entirety of it all. Yet, when I think of it all at one time, I almost feel as if I am not as overwhelmed as I should be.
I am reminded of the personal essay I was asked to write about myself for the college paper when I was awarded student of the year. I had to write about my experiences in college. After I wrote it all down, I couldn’t believe I had actually lived those 2 years of my life. The events seemed so traumatic, so raw, so scary that “normal” people could not survive. Yet, there I was, thriving, a single mom with a 4-year old, a 3.95 GPA, 70 college credits, and an AA degree.
I can’t blame or thank Covid-19 for the circumstances of my metamorphosis. I started building my cocoon sometime in 2009. I finished it right as Covid-19 cocooned me within my cocoon if you can imagine that. This smaller, more secure cocoon allowed me to really focus on the things that need to be changed, and the butterfly began to take shape.
Soon, I am sure she will be ready to fly again. Until then…
