Journal #34

December 13, 2020 by Deanna Repose Oaks

I find myself overwhelmed with emotions EXCEPT when I am reading or I am writing. When I am reading, my emotions are tied to the characters or the setting and are prescribed for me by the author. When I am writing, my emotions are put aside to allow room for the characters to feel on the page, in a concise way so that my readers may feel certain emotions at certain times.

When I am not reading or writing, I am feeling. Every moment is riddled with emotion. I usually deflate my emotions by writing poetry (which is nothing more than my emotions of the moment on paper) or avoid them by reading. I have my issues but I am not bogged down by anxiety…. I am just too engrossed in books. I have not been writing any poetry, for almost a year now, and I know I am due for a complete meltdown if I don’t get back to it.

Maybe tomorrow?
