Journal #50

April 25, 2021 by Deanna Repose Oaks

I joined a writing challenge this week. 100 words for 100 days. So far, I’m writing an average of 198.5 words/day. Go me! My consistency with this blog has me worried about finishing the challenge, as every goal I have set for myself seems to go sideways. I tend to put writing second, just because it does not yet pay the bills or clean the house. I don’t count the words I write for work or the writing I do for work as “writing” per se, because it isn’t as fulfilling as my writing.

I seem to be contradictory here because my “day job” involves a lot of writing – training manuals, how-to blogs, new features articles, and the like. Even though these things can be construed as “writing” – my heart doesn’t burn with passion for the material or the act of writing it.

Wow, my brain just did a double-take. I am being paid to write, and I don’t have the passion for the type of writing I am doing. If I am being paid to write the novels and stories, will I lose my passion for it? Quite the quandary.
